Mariekjeks is one of Sætre's oldest brands, and was launched as early as 1900.
Now the family favorite from Sætre is baked with sunflower oil instead of palm oil. Sætre Mariekjeks is popular with Norwegian consumers, and we can assure you that it still has the same good, well-known taste!
Did you know that Mariekjeks is named after the Russian Tsar Alexander's daughter, Maria? Ladybugs were first made in 1875 in England. Prince Alfred, son of Queen Victoria of England, married Mary, the daughter of Russian Tsar Alexander. In honor of the big event, the English biscuit factory Peak Frans produced its own wedding biscuit which they named Marie, after the tsar's daughter. The biscuit was a great success and shortly after, Mariekjeks were produced in several other countries.
Marie is the name of a special type of biscuit, regardless of brand. Therefore, all biscuit manufacturers can use this name.
