The choice of raw material is of course extremely important, but perhaps the main secret behind a really good herring lies in the law. It is the one that is the very foundation. We ourselves follow traditions from 1594. Klädesholmen's Basic Law, in short.
After many months the herring is mature and ready to be cooked following our own family recipes. The herring is weighed and flavored with selected spices, onions and other vegetables. We then put the herring in glass jars with a sauce, spiced according to our recipe. The filled herring jar is then sealed with a lid and labeled. Then the cans are packed and transported inland to the shops' coolers and to the restaurants who like to serve our herring.
Klädesholmen is an old fishing community dating back to the 15th century, where herring salting-houses and canneries were built early on. Like most of the Swedish island and coastal communities, Klädesholmen had its golden age during the Great Herring Period 1748-1808.
INGREDIENTS:
Marinated herring (Clupea harengus) in pieces (herring, vinegar, salt, sugar), sugar, water, onion 11%, dill, lemon pepper (spices, acidity regulator (E330), sugar, onion, lemon juice powder), vinegar, spices, preservatives ( E211).
DIRECTIONS:
Keep refrigerated.
Perishable Information
Most products we sell can be shipped via Ground without a problem. However, some items must be sent via Express due to their perishable nature including some refrigerated and frozen foods, and chocolate during the summer months.
We give the customer the choice of shipping methods. Our general policy is that we guarantee perishable products when shipped via Express, and the customer takes the risk when sent by Ground. We will not be held responsible for spoilage of perishable products sent by Ground. We prefer to ship perishable products Monday & Tuesday in an effort to avoid weekend losses and reserve the right to delay a perishable shipment to safely schedule it. We may also delay a shipment due to inclement weather.
When shipping perishable foods, our cart will automatically add Ice Pack Shipping depending on the items purchased. Ice Pack Shipping costs $8 (Including Ice Packs). These additional costs will be added to your invoice and show on your credit card. Your order CANNOT be shipped without this payment.
